Emergency repair to the sewer main on Vernon Street

The City of Nashua Street Department will be performing an emergency repair to the sewer main on Vernon Street. Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday June 29, 2010. The anticipated completion date for this construction project is the first week of September 2010 barring any major problems.

Because of the proximity of the sewer line with the water and natural gas, Pennichuck and National Grid will be replacing their respective utilities as well. Pennichuck will begin setting above ground piping for water service while the sewer work is being conducted. Upon completion of the sewer work by city forces, Pennichuck will install the new water main. Once Pennichuck has completed their work, National Grid will perform the replacement of the natural gas main.

This is a complex project involving replacement of three utilities and the corresponding services. Once the work is completed the length of Vernon Street will be re-graded and paved. Vernon Street will be closed and only accessible for residents during construction. Residents may also use Highland Street for additional parking during construction hours which will be Monday through Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. However these hours could change and include Saturdays should the work require as such.

Residents will be notified directly if and when their sewer service line is disrupted and/or if their driveway is blocked due to the construction. We would appreciate residents refraining from using any washing machines, dishwashers and limit the flushing of toilets during the disruption.

Thank you for your cooperation while repairs are being made in front of your homes. We appreciate your understanding and regret any inconvenience this may cause you. If you have any questions, please contact the Street Department Monday through Friday 6:45 am till 2:45 pm at 589-4750.

City of Nashua, Street Paving Program

Paving Program work is expected to resume in the next few weeks. Some streets are milled prior to paving. The milling treatment scarifies or grinds the pavement and leaves the surface temporarily grooved. Manhole and catch basin adjustments are made during the process. One or two lifts of pavement are applied on each street. The milling and paving operations require the street to be free of parked cars. “No Parking” signs will be posted where needed.
