The Nashua Fire Rescue Fire Alarm Division is located a the intersections of Lake Street and Chestnut Street housed in the second oldest fire house in the city, built in 1901. The former Station 2 was refurbished into a state of the art communications and Fire Alarm Office in the fall of 1999. The communications center is staffed 24 hours a day by two certified Fire Alarm dispatchers. The Fire Alarm division is responsible for the review of all fire alarm system plans, inspection of installation and compliance with all building fire alarm systems in the city. This division is also responsible for the installation and maintaining of the municipal fire alarm wiring which ties street boxes and master boxes to Fire Alarm. The city of Nashua maintains over 700 Fire Alarm Boxes.
Also housed in the Fire Alarm building is the City of Nashua Communication Technician. Fire Alarm in conjunction with the Nashua Police Department and Citywide Radio Technician maintain the radio sites, control stations, mobile and portable radio equipment for all city departments.
In 2007 the communications center handled over 21.000 calls for service ranging from general information to reports of building fires. Eight full time dispatchers staff the communications center answering more than a dozen different phone lines and monitor over 40 separate radio channels. Nashua is part of the Enhanced 911 system operated out of two call center locations in Laconia and Concord. Communications handles all Emergency Medical and Fire call types for the city.
Beginning in January 2007 the Nashua Fire Rescue deployed a new all inclusive software. Software vendor, IMC, located in North Grafton MA has help bring the department into the wireless age with Mobile Data Terminals with real time updating and a complete record keeping software package. Nashua Fire Rescue is utilizing the complete spectrum of the software which includes Dispatch, Mobile Data, Records, Imaging, Mapping, EMS, Vehicle Maintenance and Administrative modules.
