Burning Permits Requirements

- There is no cost to receiving a burning permit in Nashua, personnell will complete site inspections twice daily between 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00pm. Requests received after 9:00pm will be handled the following day.
- When is Permit Required?
- Any open burning of solid fuel materials (except charcoal)
- This includes open burning in barrels, chimeneas, fire pits, etc.
- Required at all times in City of Nashua ordinance

- Person with Written Permission of Owner of Property “IN HAND”
- Location of fire
- Category I (Camp or Cooking), Minimum of 25’from any structure
- Category II (Camp or Cooking), Minimum of 50’from any structure
- Category III (Brush), Minimum of 50’ from any structure
- Camp or Cooking
- Category I: “a small controlled fire, such as a camp or cooking fire, no greater than two feet in diameter contained in a ring of fire resistive material or in a portable fireplace”.
- Category II: “a small controlled fire, such as a camp or cooking fire, no greater than four feet in diameter contained in a ring of fire resistive material or in a portable fireplace”.
- Hose stretched and charged
- Attended at ALL times
- Brush
Category III: “Any other fire not a category I or II fire or a fire greater than four feet in diameter or a fire not contained within a ring of fire resistive material”
- No construction materials
- Materials 5” or less in diameter
- Hose stretched and charged
- Attended at All Times
- Seasonal
- Issued for Category I camp or cooking fires ONLY
- Issued by Company Officers or any Deputy Warden for Nashua
- Owner occupied properties ONLY
- All requirements above met
- “Must call 594-3636 each time prior to burning”
- Expires December 31 of year issued
- NOTE: Blanket Permits for commercial ventures (camp grounds, etc.) issued ONLY by Fire Marshal’s Office.
